Seminar on “Promoting intercultural dialogue : the role of sport and education in the Balkan region”, Belgrade, 22 October 2009

 

This event, which took place the 22nd October in Belgrade brought together public authorities representing Ministries of Sport of the countries from the Balkan region and NGOs that promote, through educative and sports activities, anti-racism and intercultural dialogue in these countries. Exchanges of experiences will lead to increased public support for initiatives carried out at grass roots level in this field.

The discussions demonstrated the social relevance of sport in the Balkan region, e.g. to fight against violence at school. As regards communication between different stakeholders, the seminar provided a good starting point. There is indeed a great need to reinforce the relations between NGOs and ministries.
