National and international political priorities in the sports sector (2012)
The priorities of the sport sector are the creation of suitable conditions that give opportunity for the citizens to lead a healthy life style, to be systematically involved in sports, to get access to sport facilities, as well as enhancing the competitiveness of Belarusian sport on the international level.

Organisation of sport in the country (2012)

The state regulation in the field of physical culture and sports is carried out by the President of the Republic of Belarus, the Government of the Republic of Belarus, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus, the local councils of deputies, executive and administrative institutions and other state institutions within the scope of their authority according to the legislation.

The system of physical culture and sports of the Republic of Belarus includes:

- the state sport establishments that according to their competence carry out the administration in the field of
physical culture and sports;
- the organizations of physical culture and sports;
- other organizations that carry out the administration in the field of physical culture and sports.

In 2011 Belarusian sportsmen won 572 medals including 174 gold ones at World and European championships and cups.

World champions in Olympic disciplines: Aleskei Shemarov (freestyle wrestling), Alim Selimov (Greeko-Roman wrestling), Aleksandra Gerasimenya (swimming), Anastasiya Novikova (weightlifting).

In 2012 winter World Championships a gold medallist in Olympic disciplines became Darya Domracheva (biathlon).

Belarus is the 13th by gold ranking in winter Olympic disciplines in 2012.

European champion (in 2011):
European champions in Olympic disciplines: Timofei Deinichenko (Greeko-Roman wrestling), Irina Pomelova, Nadezhda Popok, Olga Khudenko, Marina Poltoran (kayak), Anastasiya Novikova (weightlifting).
