Congress Committee adopted draft resolution on the situation of LGBTI people in Poland

At its meeting on 7 May 2021, the Current Affairs Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe approved draft resolution on the role of local authorities with regard to the situation and rights of LGBTI people in Poland.

The rapporteur Andrew Boff (United Kingdom, ECR) underlined the importance of inclusive and anti-discriminatory policies and expressed increasing concern about the worsening situation of LGBTI community in Poland: “We cannot see and watch this happen. Hate speeches are doubly dangerous when they are expressed by local authorities”, he added, highlighting that anti LGBTI speeches have sadly become part of the political discourse in Poland.
