Back Together to combat the Manipulation of Sports Competitions: two new signatures of the Macolin Convention

The Republic of Türkiye and North Macedonia signed the Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions (CETS No. 215), known as the Macolin Convention, on 26 October 2022 in Antalya, Türkiye.

Ms Slavica GRKOVSKA, Deputy-Prime Minister of North Macedonia and Mr Mehmet Muharrem KASAPOĞLU, Minister for Youth and Sports of the Republic of Türkiye signed the Macolin Convention on behalf of their respective countries.

The signature ceremony was held during the 17th Conference of Ministers responsible for Sport in presence of Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

With those two new signatures, 41 countries in total have signed the Convention, which is open for accession by countries from all regions of the world, committed to fighting the manipulation of sports competitions.

The Macolin Convention is a legal instrument and the only rule of international law on the manipulation of sports competitions. It requests public authorities to co-operate with sports organisations, betting operators and competition organisers to prevent, detect and sanction the manipulation of sports competitions. It proposes a common legal framework for an efficient international co-operation to respond to this global threat.
