The Network of Magistrates/Prosecutors Responsible for Sports (MARS Network), set up under the authority of the Council of Europe’s Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS), held its 4th annual meeting on 1-2 July in Strasbourg, France.
The meeting revolved around the involvement of organised crime in sport, including modus operandi of criminal networks, evidence gathering, co-operation with law enforcement authorities and the related actions needed in investigations and prosecutions. The agenda also included presentations on the manipulation of sports competitions, anti-doping, and safety, security and service at major sports events.
On 1 July, the MARS Network elected its Bureau for the next two years. Jean-Yves Lourgouilloux (France) was re-elected as Chair; Ann Lukowiak (Belgium) was re-elected as Vice-Chair; Konstantinos Spyropoulos (Greece) and Mikolaj Tyburczy (Poland) were re-elected as Bureau members; Igor Ćorluka (Bosnia and Herzegovina) was elected as Bureau member.
On 2 July, an extended session allowed the MARS Network to exchange expertise and best practices with representatives of sports organisations – a privileged occasion to explore co-operation between the judiciary and the sport movement in the fight of crimes and the protection of sport integrity.
