Suzana GRUBJEŠIĆ, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Serbia to the Council of Europe, has deposited, this 23 January 2025, before the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Bjørn BERGE, the instruments of ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions (CETS No. 215), also known as the Macolin Convention and of the Council of Europe Convention on an Integrated Safety, Security and Service Approach at Football Matches and Other Sports Events (CETS Nº 218), also known as the Saint-Denis Convention.
Serbia thus becomes the 14th State Party to the Macolin Convention and the 31st State Party to the Saint-Denis Convention. The Macolin Convention shall enter into force in respect of Serbia on 1 May 2025 while the Saint-Denis Convention shall enter into force in respect of Serbia on 1 March 2025.
In just three years, the number of countries that have ratified the Macolin Convention has more than doubled, now reaching 14 with this latest accession. This milestone marks a decisive turning point in the recognition of this unique international instrument to combat the manipulation of sports competitions.
