On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Council of Europe’s Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) will hold its annual Breakfast Roundtable on 7 March (9.30am - 12noon) in hybrid format (Strasbourg, Palais de l’Europe, and online). This year’s theme will be women’s health and sport.

International experts and guests will present initiatives in place to ensure that women and girls’ health in sport is factored in in practical terms and will set forth some of the major areas of concern, including physical health issues such as over-training, anorexia, issues linked to menstruation, the pelvic floor, maternity, the peri-menopause and the menopause, and mental health issues, amongst other topics.

The event will be opened by Gianluca Esposito, Council of Europe Director General of Human Rights and Rule of Law. Baz Moffat, CEO and Co-founder of The Well HQ, will set out the wide range of health issues affecting women that have an impact in the field of sport. Aauri Bokesa, Olympic athlete and sport social worker, will present her perspective on women’s health based on her experience as a 400m specialist and basketball player, and on her work with young women playing basketball. Martine Duclos, endocrinologist, physiologist and sports doctor, Head of the Sports Medicine Department at Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital and President of the French National Observatory of Physical Activity and Sedentary Lifestyles, will illustrate the health benefits of sport for women throughout the different times in their lives.

Two panels will focus on athletes’ lived experiences of health-related problems and on practical solutions, with a focus on increasing awareness and education on this important subject as well as overcoming obstacles.
