Speaking at the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2023 in London on 22 June, the Congress Secretary General Mathieu Mori reaffirmed the support of the Congress to Ukraine in protecting democratic values and making sure that local democracy is preserved and further enhanced. “This complex process will rely on the capacities of local leaders to accomplish the objectives of the decentralisation reform and, jointly with their constituencies, feed into the International Register of Damage, thus protecting their human rights and ensuring the rule of law”, he highlighted.
The Congress Secretary General also met with Ukrainian mayors and governmental representatives of Ukraine, the United Kingdom and Germany to discuss the Congress support in delivering the local dimension of the recovery and transformation of Ukraine.
The Ukraine Recovery Conference 2023 was held jointly by the United Kingdom and Ukraine in London on 21-23 June, as a continuation of the cycle of annual events. The previous edition of the conference, held for the first time during the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, launched the Lugano Principles, laid the foundation for the reconstruction process of Ukraine and united global efforts.
