Training seminar on Responding to drug-related challenges for refugees, migrants and IDPS

This international capacity building seminar was organised by the Pompidou Group together with the Office of the National Drug Coordinator of Greece in Athens, on 8-11 October 2019.

The activity brought together 75 participants coming from 14 countries, including policy makers, experts and practitioners working in drug prevention and treatment as well as professionals working with refugees and migrants and other international organisations covering Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa.

Interactive plenary sessions with high-profile speakers provided insight into the topic of refugees and human rights, the historical perspective on migration, mental health and the realities of host countries in Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa. In addition, workshops focused on physical health, in-campus daily activities as prevention tools, on-street work and cross learning between services for homeless people with mental health problems and addictions. The workshops allowed participants to enhance their intercultural/transcultural competencies, identify tools for screening addictive behaviour and exchange experiences and challenges on the topic.
