A Focussed Working Group convened online on 13 March 2026 to advance arrangements for the upcoming 38th Network Session of the Co-operation Group of Drug Control Services at Airports and Mail Centres, set for 14 and 15 October 2026 in Athens, Greece.

Bringing together experts of the Council of Europe's International Co-operation Group on Drugs and Addictions (Pompidou Group), the session included specialists in law enforcement, airport and mail centre security from Belgium and Greece, as well as members of the Bureau of Permanent Correspondents from Austria and Mexico, representing the Presidency and Vice-Presidency of the Pompidou Group.

Discussions focused on developing the forthcoming 38^th Session’s agenda, identifying priority topics, confirming participant profiles, and identifying the expert speakers for each topic. In addition to this, the Focussed Working Group also explored opportunities to arrange an operational site training on drug and precursor trafficking via mail centres, in collaboration with Greek authorities.

This event will mark the implementation of the Co-operation Group of South-East European Airports (CGSEEA) and Airports Group, as set forth in the Pompidou Group’s 2026–2029 Work Programme.

The Co-operation Group of Drug Control Services at European Airports was founded in 1986. Its objectives are to develop a harmonised multidisciplinary strategy for drug detection at international airports and in mail centres, enhance inter-airport co-operation and facilitate law enforcement collaboration to combat illegal trafficking, through the sharing of information on control, risk management, profiling, detection and investigative measures and tools among professionals.
