Some 280 cybercrime experts from about 80 countries and a large number of private sector institutions, academia and international organisations participated in the 2012 edition of Octopus.

Results of the conference are summarised in "key messages".

The Octopus Conference is part of the Global Project on Cybercrime which is currently funded by voluntary contributions from Estonia, Japan, Romania, United Kingdom and Microsoft as well as the budget of the Council of Europe.

Japan made a special contribution available for the conference.

The Octopus Conference was preceded by the plenary of the Cybercrime Convention Committee (T-CY).
