The CyberSouth+ project, a joint initiative of the European Union and the Council of Europe, supported its partner countries to participate in the 2026 ITU Inter-Regional CyberDrill for Africa and the Arab States Regions. The event was hosted by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) in Victoria Falls, between 30 June and 3 July 2026 and was aimed at strengthening technical cybersecurity capabilities, improving communication and incident response processes, and reinforcing national and international coordination.
The CyberDrill provided a platform for senior ICT and cybersecurity officials to discuss and formulate strategic directions and plans to tackle emerging global and regional cybersecurity threats. The event highlighted regional and international operational co-operation through presentations on INTERPOL’s African Cyberthreat Assessment, Operation Ramz, and coordinated law enforcement responses to cybercrime. On this occasion, the participants also took part in INTERPOL’s operational coordination meeting to enhance collaboration and intelligence exchanges.
The programme featured two parallel training tracks: one technical, centred on cyber threat intelligence, and one management-focused delving into national cyber resilience, multi-agency coordination, cyber crisis management, and co-operation between cybersecurity authorities and law enforcement agencies.
The CyberSouth+ project will continue to support countries from the MENA region to engage in operational co-operation in cybercrime cases and to share their best practices with other partners in the region.
