South-East Europe and Mediterranean follow-up meeting

During the one-day meeting, which will take place in Lubljana, Slovenia, and based on the report of the Bucharest global development education follow-up meeting and on the outcomes of the annual task-force meeting(s), participants will review the state of advancement of global development education implementation through three sessions dedicated to

policy making and curriculum development

professional development of educators and quality support

awareness raising and pedagogical tools


The meeting is organised by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe with the support of the European Commission in partnership with the following regional partners:

SLOGA, as implementing partner (Slovenia)

Open Education Centre-OEC (Bulgaria)

CYINDEP (Cyprus)

SKOP (Malta)

FOND and the Ministry of Education (Romania)

expected outcomes

assess the progress made in relation to the global development education regional seminar and the recommendations of the follow-up meeting

showcase strategies for the recognition and promotion of global development education developed in the region

identify complementarities between existing education national policies, the recommendations and the Council of Europe framework of competences for democratic culture

identify common challenges and practices in global development education in the region

promote global development education as an integral part of education and development policies

develop joint action and collaboration within and beyond South-East Europe and Mediterranean countries through regular meetings between the regional North-South Centre global development education network coordinators / global development education working groups of the national Civil Society Organisations platforms

further the implementation of global development education in the South-East Europe and Mediterranean countries until 2019 through operational recommendations

These national multistakeholder task forces monitor the process of global development education curricula and policy development throughout the year, during their regular mid-term meetings.
