Nikheel joined the Attorney General’s Office of Mauritius in July 2021 as a state Counsel. He is a practicing barrister involved heavily in litigation, mainly civil litigation. As part of the team of Counsel at the office of the Attorney General, Nikheel is also involved in the drafting legal opinions which are often requested from the different statutory bodies and ministries prior to decisions being taken.
He was called to the Bar of England and Wales in August 2016 and the Mauritian Bar in January 2018. Prior to joining the office of the Attorney General, Nikheel was the head of Altura Chambers which specialised in Criminal, Employment, Environmental and Labour disputes(Trade Unions).
Nikheel started his legal career in 2013 as the legal advisor of the aerospace company, MPMsim Ltd, a UK company involved in the development of a Computer-aided Engineering Software after having completed his LLB with the University of Mauritius. He thereafter proceeded to complete his Bar Professional Training Course at the University of the West of England(Bristol) in 2015.
