Reinforcing Judicial Expertise on Freedom of Expression and the Media in South-East Europe

Within the framework of the Regional Project “Reinforcing Judicial Expertize on Freedom of Expression and the Media in South-East Europe” (JUFREX), implemented by the Council of Europe and co-financed by the European Union, a four-day Training of Trainers on application of Article 10 standards of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) began today in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The event gathers twenty expert-practitioners, judges, prosecutors and lawyers, identified by the judicial and prosecutorial training centres and bar associations in the country, and will focus on developing their educational skills, adult-learning techniques, and providing specialised knowledge on the Article 10 standards that are due to be met by the judiciary in the country.

Further, the event introduces a newly developed Training Handbook on Article 10, customised to country’s legislative environment by experts with extensive practice in the field.

Participants who successfully complete the training will become certified educators and will, based on the Handbook, further share their knowledge through a series of capacity development events which will be organised by the judicial and prosecutorial training centres and bar associations in the country over the course of the next two years.

The views expressed herein can in no way be taken to represent the official opinion of the European Union.
