On 12 March 2024, the European Youth Foundation (EYF) staff visited the international activity 'Speak the Unspoken: Youth dealing with the past' organised by the Peace volunteering network (PVN) in Durres, Albania. The main aim of the activity was to empower young people, young journalists, youth workers, young educators and activists to use media literacy to deal with the past, both online and offline in the Balkan region.
20 young people from the Balkan region, France and Belgium gathered to discuss this topic and to learn and share experiences with each other.
'We really like that there is both interactive activities and a theoretic part, offering the space for reflection and mutual learning. It is also interesting to get to know more about the Balkan region as sometimes we are a bit far away from this reality.' - Emma, a volunteer in PVN from France, and Lucie, an intern in SCI International from Belgium.
'It is amazing to be talking about media as a topic that is especially relevant for youth and the future. This event will have a great impact on us and our work in the organisation. We are planning to have small projects and workshops with young people about media and media literacy, and will also collaborate with the local school to have joint workshops with our teachers in the schools and the youth center.' - Konstantin and Eldar, volunteers and educators in Svitac Brcko, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Throughout the year, the European Youth Foundation is visiting projects run by non-governmental youth organisations (NGOs) receiving a grant from the Foundation. Through the visits the Foundation expects to increase the visibility of the EYF and the Council of Europe; give feedback to the Programming Committee on Youth; establish contact with youth NGOs; get to know to NGOs and the work they do.
