The Eur-opa Major Hazards held a Conference Major Hazards and Migrants, asylum seekers and refugees on 14 October 2016 in Lisbon, Portugal. “Disaster risk management policy and practice need to adjust to the much greater mobility of people, and the increasingly complex relationship between risk and mobility. This requires more imaginative and flexible approaches as well as inclusive strategies targeted to vulnerable populations”, concludes a report of the Eur-opa Major Hazards Agreement. Considering the unprecedented large scale arrival of migrants faced by many countries in the past years and noting that the Civil protection organisations did not take the specific needs of these populations into account in their interventions, the Eur-opa Major Hazards agreement has been, since 2014, collecting good practices and identifying concrete associated actions in this area, in order to accompany member States in developing policies to improve the resilience of Migrants, asylum seekers and refugees to natural and technological hazards.
