Human Rights Trust Fund supports a new project

On 8 December 2023 the Assembly of Contributors of the Human Rights Trust Fund (HRTF) allocated 500 000 € to the project “Human Rights and Sustainable Environment in South-East Europe”. This project aims to set up the ground for better protection of the environment and human rights with the use of the Council of Europe's main legal tool – the case law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), as well as the application of best practices and standards from Council of Europe's member States and bodies.

Since its creation in 2008, the HRTF has funded a total of 52 projects, with commitments over 25 million Euros.

The purpose of the HRTF is, inter alia, to support efforts of member States to meet their commitments under the European Convention on Human Rights and other Council of Europe human rights standards. The Fund brings together Finland, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Ambassador Patrick Engelberg, Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the Council of Europe, is the current Chairperson of the Assembly of Contributors, with the Directorate of Programme Co-ordination of the Council of Europe providing the Secretariat of the Assembly.
