Dutch lawyers cross-link digital developments and human rights in Strasbourg

On May 30, Patrick Penninckx, the Head of the Information Society Department has made a presentation for a group of Dutch lawyers visiting the Council of Europe. In his intervention Mr. Penninckx listed the latest challenges to human rights and democratic governance posed by the ongoing digital revolution and listed the newly developed standards of the council of Europe on the fields of freedom of expression, protecting privacy and combating cybercrime. He equally informed the audience about the ongoing work on developing a legal framework for Artificial Intelligence and an evolving partnership with digital companies. In the ensuing exchange of views, the Dutch lawyers provided examples of the National application of European norms and particular issues emerging in this context in the Netherlands. The visit was organised by the Netherlands Study Centre for Judiciary.
