The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr Thorbjørn Jagland, addressed his condolences to Prime Minister Tsipras and the people of Greece following the deadly wildfires near Athens. He also extended his thoughts to the many victims of fires in Sweden.

The European and Mediterranean Major Hazards Agreement of the Council of Europe proposed assistance through the expertise available within its network of Specialised Centres.
