GLACY+ participated in INTERPOL’s E-Evidence Boot Camp

INTERPOL’s E-Evidence Boot Camp (EEBC) is a 8-week long online training course on electronic evidence developed by INTERPOL in collaboration with University College Dublin. It combines self-paced learning, web forum and weekly online webinars where participants exchange ideas. The syllabus is compact with recorded lectures, readings and weekly assessments on key aspects of computing, information technology and digital forensics.

A total of 21 participants from GLACY+ countries Benin, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ghana, Mauritius, Morocco, Paraguay, Philippines, Senegal successfully completed the training together with other invited law enforcement participants. The project also contributed to the course with two webinars on International Cooperation and the Budapest Convention.

More instances of the EEBC courses are expected in the future. INTERPOL and the Council of Europe will continue to cooperate in the global action on cybercrime, particularily on capacity building for criminal justice authorities, which is strongly needed, as the INTERPOL EEBC Course Introduction points out:

“The widespread appearance of digital information has created challenges in legal proceedings as law enforcement officers, judges and prosecutors may struggle on how to properly authenticate it under their current judicial rules and procedures. In many cases, countries may not even have the appropriate legal instruments for establishing a foundation for admissibility for digital evidence, which results in the application of different standards for similar types of evidence. In order to improve this situation, a deeper understanding of the authenticity of the electronic evidence is needed by all actors participating in the judicial process, as to determine the authenticity, reliability and integrity of digital evidence.”
