Meeting on 12 February 2024 in Paris, the Congress Bureau examined recent developments in the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine and adopted a Declaration in the run-up to the 2nd anniversary of the beginning of the war.
The Bureau also held an exchange of views with Vladimir Astapenka, Deputy Head of National Crisis Management of Belarus (NAM) and Head of Mission of Democratic Belarus in Brussels.
Discussions focused on Congress political support to Belarusian democratic forces, integration of European standards of local democracy into their work and promotion of the European Charter of Local Self-Government, as well as capacity development and awareness-raising on the concept of local self-government and principles of good governance.
The Bureau furthermore discussed Congress co-operation activities in member States and neighbouring regions, its contribution to the UN Summit of the Future, as well as preparations of its 46th Session (Strasbourg, 26-28 March 2024), among others.
