The next edition of the University on Youth and Development will take place between the 10 and the 14 September 2018 and gather around 200 young representatives in at least seven different activities organised under the umbrella theme of “the role of young people in promoting peaceful and inclusive societies”.

For five days youth stakeholders from different European countries and other neighbouring regions will be part of an international and multilateral hub where they will meet, be trained and define actions to tackle common challenges that affect young people worldwide. The bottom-up approach and the active participation of youth-led organisations in this process is fundamental and acknowledges the centrality of youth and their role in the path towards sustainable development.

The 19th UYD will integrate initiatives of the North-South Centre related to the Intercultural Learning Exchange through Global Education, Networking and Dialogue (iLEGEND) such as the 9th Training Course on Global Development Education for Youth multipliers and two expert meetings on media literacy and on the revision of the framework document of the Global Education Programme, the Global Development Education Guidelines.

The University on Youth and Development (UYD) is an activity facilitated and coordinated by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe in partnership with the Spanish Institute for Youth (INJUVE), the European Youth Forum (YFJ), the Spanish Youth Council (CJE) and other international youth organisations and youth serving organisations.

Since the year 2000, the UYD is a space to explore the concept of global development education and global citizenship, to encourage dialogue between decision makers and young people, to advocate for youth participation and to empower young people towards their rights and duties.
