GREVIO carries out its baseline evaluation visit to the European Union

A delegation of the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) is carrying out its baseline evaluation visit to the European Union from 16 to 25 June 2026. This visit is one of the steps in the procedure to monitor the implementation by the European Union of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention), which acceded to the convention in June 2023.

The EU’s ratification of the Istanbul Convention represents a milestone for women and girls across Europe and sends the strong message that EU stands against violence against women. Through its accession, the EU benefits from the Istanbul Convention’s monitoring mechanism, including tailor-made guidance by GREVIO on how to  improve the implementation of the Istanbul Convention’s provisions.

In this context the GREVIO delegation will be travelling to Brussels and Vilnius and meeting with a range of relevant EU institutions, bodies and agencies.

GREVIO plans to publish its baseline evaluation report on the European Union in the fall of 2027.
