We will discuss this and other questions at the World Forum for Democracy, where the RESIST initiative will lead the exchange.
At a time of geopolitical tensions and wars, economic turbulence, accelerating environmental and climate degradation and unregulated advance of AI, our societies are confronted with complex decisions that demand informed public debate. Yet, as acknowledged by the 2025 Report of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe calling for a New Democratic Pact for Europe, the information environment on which this debate relies is increasingly polluted by misleading, deceptive, or manipulative content. The United Nations Global Risk Report 2024 listed disinformation among the gravest risks for states and as a threat that many of them feel ill-prepared to address. It has become one of the most pressing challenges to our societies, blurring the boundaries between facts and falsehood, opinion and manipulation, ultimately undermining public trust and informed choices.
This session will address the importance and need for comprehensive national strategies to build resilience to disinformation, emphasising their roles in reinforcing democratic security. The participants will discuss how the RESIST initiative will help societies become more resilient.
