Enhancing Human Rights in the Context of Migration and Environmental Justice
The Project “Fostering Civil Society Participation in Access to Justice in Türkiye: Enhancing Human Rights in the Context of Migration and Environmental Justice’’ aims to enhance the resilience of civil society organisations (CSOs) in Türkiye, empower them to promote human rights, and facilitate access to justice and remedies in the areas of migration and the environment. It is funded under the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme “Fostering civil society participation and capacity building in access to justice in Türkiye”, and implemented by the Council of Europe.
Strengthen the capacities of CSOs, bar associations, lawyers, municipalities and other professionals on human rights and access to justice in the fields of migration and the environment.
Improve local mechanisms and co-ordination between CSOs, bar associations, lawyers, municipalities and other professionals working on migration and environmental matters.
Raise awareness among migrants, refugees, persons under temporary protection, individuals affected by environmental challenges regarding human rights and access to justice.
Provide legal aid services to migrants, refugees, persons under temporary protection, and individuals affected by environmental challenges, ensuring their access justice and effective remedies.

Target groups: Bar associations; civil society organisations active in the field of human rights and migration; civil society organisations active in the field of human rights and the environment; lawyers; municipalities.
End beneficiaries: Migrants, refugees, persons under temporary protection and asylum seekers; persons affected by environmental issues.
Development of needs assessments, guides, studies and training materials.
Training of trainers programmes and cascade trainings for CSOs, lawyers and local bar associations.
Co-ordination meetings and development of a roadmap to strengthen joint approaches between CSOs, bar associations, municipalities and other actors active in the field of migration and the environment.
Awareness and outreach activities for migrants, asylum seekers, refugees, persons under temporary protection, and individuals affected by environmental challenges.
Grants to CSOs working in the field of migration and the environment to facilitate access to information, legal counselling, justice and effective remedies.
A grant to UTBA to support the operation of legal aid clinics in Malatya, Şanlıurfa and Van enabling them to provide free legal aid in the areas of migration and the environment.
Improved capacities of CSOs, bar associations, lawyers and other professionals working on migration and environmental matters to effectively apply European and international standards and to facilitate access to justice and remedies.
Enhanced dialogue and coordination among CSOs, municipalities, bar associations, lawyers and other professionals working on migration and environmental matters, leading to more consistent and effective responses.
Improved access to information, legal support, effective remedies, and awareness of rights for migrants, refugees, persons under temporary protection, and individuals affected by environmental challenges through grant support to CSOs.
Comprehensive grant scheme to legal aid clinics in Malatya, Şanlıurfa and Van, enabling them to provide legal aid and counselling in the areas of migration and the environment.
Duration: 36 months (22 December 2025 – 21 December 2028)
Budget: 2 963 000 Euros (90% funded by the European Union, and 10% by the Council of Europe)
