Beyond the daily struggles and uncertainties of displacement, a vibrant hall in Şanlıurfa transformed into a space of dignity, connection and hope. Two simultaneous outreach events brought together children and adults under temporary protection to learn about their rights, access practical information and share their experiences.
More than a hundred children explored their rights through playful activities, including colouring books and interactive games such as "I Am a Child, I Have Rights", discovering the difference between rights and wishes. In another session on environmental awareness and recycling, children learned about protecting the environment and how small everyday actions can contribute to a healthier planet. Beyond learning, the workshops offered a space to simply be children, forging friendships and discovering that their voices and rights matter.
Meanwhile, parents and community members engaged in an open dialogue on access to education, healthcare, civic protections and legal aid. The Co-ordinator of the Şanlıurfa Legal Aid Clinic and representatives of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations (UTBA) Migration and Asylum Commission listened to their concerns, answered questions and provided practical guidance on accessing essential services and legal assistance. “When you touch people directly, it is precious,” said the Director of International Relations and EU Center of UTBA”
By the end of the afternoon, children had discovered their rights through play, while adults had gained practical knowledge to navigate everyday challenges. Above all, the exchanges showed the value of direct human connection and how being heard, informed and supported can help bridge the gap between knowing one's rights and being able to exercise them.
