Short description of the project:

The project “We care about you!” had as a theme the idea of social inclusion and everything it means. It aimed to develop students’ and teachers’ knowledge about this concept, as they knew little, and many students in this school were prone to social exclusion due to their background This leads to poor learning outcomes, absenteeism and early school leaving, low self-esteem and lack of motivation and interest.

Aims/objectives

The aim of the project was to organize activities for students who are prone to social exclusion, to actively involve them in all the activities, to develop their skills and abilities beyond the regular classes, to enable them to build and express their talent and creativity. The students belonged to a group set up in school where they felt better as nobody differentiated them and they were treated equally.

Expected results/outcomes

The 25 students who were directly and actively involved in the project learned about tolerance and social exclusion (causes and solutions). They were socially included in the school community and they learned how to find the genuine moral models, and they also developed their sense of belonging.

Changes

The students gained informal knowledge, they got involved, expressed their ideas, acted and saw the final results. They became more tolerant, they improved their academic knowledge (some of them passed the final exam), and now they see things from a different perspective.

Challenges you faced

One of the biggest challenges was keeping students, teachers and the partners involved, interested in and motivated by the project. The direct beneficiaries were involved in the project; the entire target group discussed the project activities , the steps to be taken to accomplish them, and more importantly, students were given a voice.
