Piatra Craiului National Park

The Piatra Craiului National Park is one of the most attractive places in the Romanian Carpathians. The breathtaking landscape and the multitude of hiking, climbing and biking trails attract many visitors from Romania and abroad. The park hosts a multitude of plant and animal species, among them Carpathian endemites. The altitude which exceeds 2,200 m means that almost the entire group of mountain and alpine species characteristic of the Carpathians find optimal development conditions here. The existence of forests, limestone cliffs, screes, grasslands and marshes favour the maintenance of a distinct botanical diversity. Fungi, mosses, lichens and flowering plants find here a true paradise. The park fauna, especially invertebrate species, offer biologists a wealth of research possibilities, while the large mammals, including large carnivores, attract wildlife lovers.
