Brazil was invited to accede to the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime in December 2019 and in 2021, Brazilian National Assembly debated and approved the accession to the Budapest Convention.
As part of the ongoing capacity building support, the Council of Europe, under the GLACY+ Project, organised between 30 May to 7 June in cooperation with Federal Public Ministry and National School for Magistrates of Brazil a series of webinars on the national cybercrime legal framework and Budapest Convention.
The series triggered a broad interest, with around 100 participants following each webinar. The series combined presentations on the national provisions on cybercrime and electronic evidence and the provisions of the Budapest Convention. The last webinar in the series benefited from the interventions of EUROJUST, US Department of Justice and Romanian 24/7 Point of Contact of the Budapest Convention.
The series of workshops is aiming to raise awareness among law enforcement agencies and criminal justice authorities of Brazil on the international legal framework on cybercrime and electronic evidence (Budapest Convention), including tools and procedures on international cooperation.
