The joint project “Reinforcing Judicial Expertise on Freedom of Expression and the Media in South-East Europe (JUFREX)”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe, gathered media professionals, editors, journalists and reporters to discuss legal and physical threats against journalists, was held on 29 November in Pristina.

The discussion was led by the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and software engineer Matthew Caruana Galizia. With his professional background in the field of reporting, he shared with the participants the story of his mother Daphe Caruana Galizia, who was killed in a car bomb attack in October 2017. The case made headlines and raised the alarm over the safety journalists across the world.

During the discussion Caruana Galizia explained the efforts his family is constantly giving in order to seek the justice as well as the role of the European and international mechanisms in protecting journalists.

The participants were actively engaged and posed questions to the international expert during the Q&A session.
