How Venice controlled pandemics

On 20 May at Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice, Nelli-Elena Vanzan Marchini presented her latest book: " Guardarsi da chi non si guarda. La Repubblica di Venezia e il controllo delle pandemie". Were present at the event Franco Pasocco, Guardian Grande of the Scuola; Luisella Pavan-Woolfe, Head of the Council of Europe Venice Office and Umberto Vattani, President of the Venice International University.

The book narrates the internal and international measures which Venice adopted to contrast pandemics and keep its citizens safe and trade thriving according to the motto "beware of those who do not take care". This indicates the need to take preventive and repressive measures against those who did not adopt them because of religious belifs or out of ignorance. The Republic of Venice created a well-run public health system to reduce epidemic risks while defending the sustainability of its mercantile development . It thus contributed in a significant way to European culture in this area. Professor vanzan-MArchini is Prsident of the Centro Italiano si Storia sanitaria e Ospedaliera of the Regione Veneto. She has written numerous essays and books on Venice history.
