European multilingual excellences awarded in Veneto

With the aim of supporting and promoting multilingualism and mobility, the General Directorate for School Regulations awards the Certilingua certificate every year to all those students who, at the end of their high school career, have distinguished themselves by being able to interact in an international context using one or more foreign languages (in addition to their mother tongue).

On 20 May, Laura Donà, coordinator of the technical directors of URS Veneto, awarded Certilingua certificates for the 2021 edition to 16 local students. On this occasion, the Technical Director for Languages at the Ministry of Education, Diana Saccardo, talked about the role of languages in Italian schools, while Eugenia Sainz from Ca' Foscari University gave an overview of the Spanish language in Italy. Head of the Italian office of the Council of Europe, Luisella Pavan-Woolfe, stressed the importance and value of the knowledge of languages not only as a precious skill for the student, but also as a tool for peaceful and democratic coexistence.
