Eurimages supports gender equality at Venice Biennale

Eurimages took part in the annual Seminar on Gender Equality and Inclusivity in the film industry organised in co-operation with the Venice International Film Festival, the Italian Ministry of Culture, Women in Film and Television & Media Italia on 7 September 2021.

This was the third seminar since 2019 and it was held within the framework of the Gap Financing Market, with the participation of the President of Venice Biennale Roberto Cicutto, the Director Alberto Barbera, Under Secretary of State Lucia Borgonzoni and the Director of the Council of Europe Office of Venice Luisella Pavan Woolfe. “Aiming for 50:50 by 2020” is the CoE’s slogan on gender equality in the audiovisual sector. Unfortunately, even though statistics show that the gender balance is getting better, parity is far from being reached.

During the seminar, data presented by Milan Università Cattolica revealed that male professionals are predominant in national productions and the gender gap grows as the length of the film increases. However, in Italy, between 2017 and 2020 the rate of female driven projects grew by 4% and the trend continues to be positive.
