The Global Education Week launches a week-long mobilisation in Europe and beyond under the theme "Peace for the Planet, A Planet of Peace". The launch of this campaign is set to ignite discussions and activities emphasising the pivotal role Global Education plays in building a peaceful and sustainable world.

Against the backdrop of pressing environmental concerns and the need for global peace, the Global Education Week aims to spotlight the interconnectedness of education and the well-being of our planet. The event, taking place from 13 to 19 November, is coordinated by the North South Centre of the Council of Europe in the framework of the iLEGEND III project and implemented at national level by the Global Education Network. Over the week, educators, teachers, students, ministries, local communities, youth organisation and young people will engage in activities to explore how education can serve as an engine to promote awareness and a change in our lifestyles.

Under the banner of "Peace for the Planet, A Planet of Peace," the Global Education Week encourages a holistic approach to education that not only imparts knowledge but also nurtures a sense of responsibility towards our shared world. Participants will engage in activities that promote environmental education, sustainable practices, and the development of skills conducive to fostering peace at both local and global levels. For example, In Croatia, numerous activities are organised such as : workshops for primary school students, workshop open for all, conference, research, community work, peace walk, presentations, peer sharing, good practice sharing, discussion… This morning, the workshops for primary school students “Sustainable behaviour for a better climate” aims to educate future consumers about matters related to consumption, such as sustainability, environmental impact, global warming, composting etc.

During the week, the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe plans to introduce the “Self-Paced Online Training – Introduction to Global Education” in both French and Arabic. Additionally, the University on Youth and Development 2023 aftermovie will be unveiled, focusing on the theme of "Young People, Peace, and Climate Change." Furthermore, the release of the 10 Years university report will showcase an exemplary initiative for experimenting with Global Education.

On November 16, the North-South Centre will participate in two significant events. The first is the conference titled "Global Citizenship Education: From Research to Policy," organised by the SOLIDAR Foundation and Centre for Peace Studies. The second event is a webinar titled "Transforming Education to Contribute to Global Citizenship and Peaceful and Inclusive Societies," organised by Arigatou International. The North-South Centre's Global Education Network supports the implementation of the Global Education activities. The network encompasses key national level stakeholders, who want to share Global Education strategies and practices. The network builds its force on its diversity, enabling peer and intercultural learning between formal and non-formal educators, policy makers and Civil Society Organisations. Each member acts as the North-South Centre’s implementing partners for the realisation of the Global Development Education thematic seminars and follow-up meetings, the eLearning and residential training activities and pedagogical resources. They are also responsible to promote, at national level, the Global Education Week.
