Council of Europe experts assessed the Ukrainian Law on Media Freedom

On 24 February 2023, the Council of Europe transmitted to the Ukrainian authorities the Legal Opinion of the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law (DGI) on the Law “On Media” of Ukraine. The Opinion was prepared by two Council of Europe experts, based on the request by the Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee of Ukraine on Humanitarian and Information Policy. The Opinion was prepared within the Council of Europe Project “Safeguarding Freedom of Expression and Freedom of Media in Ukraine” aimed at supporting the Ukrainian media community in addressing current needs, especially under the current situation of the war in Ukraine. The Project is part of the framework of the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Ukraine, namely the “Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction (3Rs Package)”, which is to be implemented for the period of 2023-2026.
