On 19 October 2022 Patrick Penninckx, Head of the Information Society Department, addressed the participants of the Macolin Community conference. Organised with the support of UEFA and the assistance of IOC, the event aimed to raise awareness on the needs and implications of tackling sports competitions manipulation, highlight challenges of investigating and prosecuting sports competitions manipulation, reinforce cooperation between sport, public authorities, law enforcement and digital stakeholders. The speaker underlined that the Council of Europe, through its ground-breaking work on data protection, artificial intelligence and information society, is in a privileged position to bring together sport, law enforcement and digital stakeholders, notably through its Digital Partnership, and provided the framework in which this cooperation with business partners can be enhanced.
