In 2025, police-related measures to strengthen the protection of journalists were further developed in Slovakia. The Slovak Police prepared a draft methodology for police procedures aimed at protecting journalists at high-risk mass events, in line with the implementation of Task 4.4.2 of the Strategy for the Prevention of Crime and Other Anti-Social Activities in the Slovak Republic until 2028. In the same year, the Slovak Police also developed the Principles of Sensitive Media Reporting on Cases of Violent Extremism, a non-binding recommendation intended to promote ethical reporting practices and enhance the safety of journalists when covering terrorist attacks and related incidents. Following the resumption of activities of the Platform for the Promotion of Press Freedom and the Protection of Journalists in 2026, work is expected to continue on the establishment of a functional mechanism for monitoring attacks and crimes against journalists, to be submitted to the Government Council of the Slovak Republic for Crime Prevention, strengthening coordination between law-enforcement authorities and relevant stakeholders.
