In 2025, Greece continued efforts to strengthen information integrity, media governance and self-regulation. The country joined the Paris Declaration on Multilateral Action for Information Integrity and Independent Media and initiated preparations for a new annual Forum on Public Discourse in Democracy, Digital Security and Information Protection.
At the national level, Law 5253/2025 introduced a framework for the future establishment of a Hellenic Media Council as an independent self-regulatory body bringing together journalists, media owners, academia and civil society. The Council is expected to promote dialogue and initiatives relating to media freedom, journalists’ safety, disinformation, media literacy and editorial independence.
