The staff members of national data protection authority, State Inspector’s Service of Georgia (SIS) were trained in Artificial Intelligence and Personal Data in December 2021 and January 2022.
The online trainings were delivered by the CoE expert in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Data Protection. The event took place in two rounds and tailored the training needs of the top and middle management employees of the State Inspector’s Service. In total, 31 employees were trained.

The training module was divided into several parts to:

  • Strengthen the understanding of Artificial Intelligence, as well as its impact on the existing data protection framework and principles;
  • Review the contextualisation approaches of data protection principles in the Artificial Intelligence environment and discuss the sector-specific issues;
  • Analyse the management of the Artificial Intelligence based projects through the specific case-studies;
  • Discuss the strategies on how to mitigate potential risks;
  • Evaluate the use of Artificial Intelligence tools, in compliance with the existing self-regulatory mechanisms and Code of Ethics.

The project has recently launched its action in the areas of Artificial Intelligence and Personal Data Protection in partnership with the SIS. The purpose of the action is to strengthen the capacity of the latter to ensure the use of AI tools in Georgia in line with the personal data protection principles. Apart from the enhancing the knowledge and skills of the SIS staff in the field of AI, the project also works towards the institutional policy development for SIS in the field of AI.

The activities took place in the framework of the project “Strengthening Media Freedom, Internet Governance and Personal Data Protection in Georgia”, funded by the Council of Europe Action Plan 2020-2023 for Georgia.
