Back The 2020 BeSafeNet Award Ceremony

On 10 September 2020, the BeSafeNet Olympiad 2020 award ceremony was held online.
The 2020 BeSafeNet Award Ceremony

The three winning teams from Secondary schools in the EUR-OPA members states; team Teal, Greece (1st), team Knowledge Knights, Romania (2nd) and team Green Team, Bulgaria (3rd) and their teachers as well as the EUR-OPA secretariat participated in this event. The teams successfully competed against 269 other teams from 10 EUR-OPA member states. The teams were disappointed that the award ceremony could not be organised in Strasbourg but understood the importance of staying safe and the consequent international travel restrictions imposed in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The competition was organised in the framework of the BeSafeNet project implemented by the Cyprus Civil Defence Ministry and sponsored by the European and Mediterranean Major Hazards Agreement (EUR-OPA). BeSafeNet aims to raise awareness about the nature, causes and potentially destructive effects of natural and technological disasters with a view to promoting safety and a global risk culture among secondary schools in Europe.

Pupils feedback

Teal Team , Geitonas School, Athens, Greece

We believe that this information is essential for everyone to know, as such dangerous situations are often unexpected and could potentially affect every one of us. It was an enlightening experience for us as we gained a thorough understanding of natural and technological hazards.

Knowledge Knights Team, Liceul Regina Maria, Dorohoi, Romania

Thanks to the BeSafeNet Olympiad, we had the chance to learn lots of interesting information, including about earthquakes, which are one of the main natural disasters that occur in our country, sharing afterwards the things we learned to our friends, other colleagues and our parents, making safety one of our top priorities.

Green Team, 40 Secondary School "Louis Pasteur", Sofia, Bulgaria.

We had a great time preparing for the Olympiad and we found the BeSafeNet website really useful with all the materials and tests there. The leaflet about next year Olympiad is attractive and informative, we think the Ant [Netty] is a really sweet and nice mascot.
