CyberSouth: Basic Judicial Training on cybercrime and electronic evidence in Lebanon

Council of Europe in partnership with the Ministry of Justice in Lebanon organised on 11-15 September 2018, under the framework of CyberSouth project, a basic judicial training on cybercrime and electronic evidence. The aim of this activity was to provide to judges and prosecutors basic knowledge of aspects related to cybercrime investigations and collection of electronic evidence, and also to highlight the available instruments for international cooperation in the field of cybercrime.

The opening of the training activity was addressed by the Director General of the Ministry of Justice, Mayssam Noueiri, who spoke about the importance of the partnership with the Council of Europe on this matter and the new legislative draft that will reflect provisions of the Budapest Convention on cybercrime and electronic evidence. The training benefited as well over the intervention of the MP Nadim Gemayel, President of the Information Technology Parliamentary Committee, who addressed the importance of a cybersecurity strategy in Lebanon and his interest in including elements of the Council of Europe’s Convention on Cybercrime in the new strategy.

CyberSouth project will continue to support the Lebanese authorities in organisation of activities related to cybercirme matters, including an advanced training on cybercrime and electronic evidence, which will be delivered to the same group of judges and prosecutors in January 2019.
