On Thursday 26 January 2023, the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law and its Cooperation in Police and deprivation of Liberty Unit organised online, via zoom software, the first constituent meeting of the Network of National Correspondents of Police Authorities, also known as the Police Network. Among the 35 members, 31 were present online.

The Network of National Correspondents of Police Authorities was created by a decision of the Committee of Ministers in May 2022 and was launched during the annual conference in June 2022 in Strasbourg. It is managed by the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law. The Network aims to encourage the sharing of experience and exchange of views between the police authorities of the member states as regards the Council of Europe’s core values of human rights, democracy and rule of law. The Network now includes 35 member states’ delegates and will further determine its purpose, objectives and future activities.

The Council of Europe police Network will not be involved in criminal police cooperation.
