Workshop in Ukraine: ensuring the inclusion of IDPs at the local level

How can the inclusion and protection of internally displaced persons (IDPs) be ensured at the local level in Ukraine? A workshop on this issue will be held on 28th February 2019 in Kyiv, Ukraine, with numerous participants getting involved, including Ukrainian mayors, representatives of local and regional councils, national associations of local authorities, as well as the Government of Ukraine and other national stakeholders.

The objective of the workshop is to discuss the ways local authorities protect, and promote, the rights of IDPs, and to encourage their participation in local decision-making processes. Participants will exchange best practice examples in order to improve the overall socio-economic integration of IDPs, namely via the provision of durable housing; and to ensure equal access to livelihood opportunities and services.

Jointly organised by the Congress and the Association of Ukrainian Cities (AUC), the workshop is an activity to promote the Council of Europe’s projects: “Strengthening democracy and building local confidence in Ukraine” and “Internal displacement in Ukraine: Building Solutions”, in accordance with the organisation’s Action Plan for Ukraine 2018 - 2021.
