Seminar in Kyiv: “Engaging citizens in local affairs for greater transparency”

The seminar on “Engaging citizens in local affairs for greater transparency” held in Kyiv, Ukraine, on 19-20 December 2017, gathered together mayors, local councillors and young local leaders. This event served as a platform for exchange and dissemination of collaborative ways to enhance the quality of local democracy in the country, discussing good practices and the sustainability of local actions.

Participants discussed the decentralisation reform in Ukraine, gender equality as well as present the main achievements of the project “Promoting local democracy in Ukraine”. On 20 December, Oksana HUSS, Anti-Corruption Research Network, presented the Handbook on transparency and citizen participation.

This event is implemented within the project “Promoting local democracy in Ukraine”, as part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine 2015 - 2017. It aims to improve the implementation of democratic principles in Ukraine by enhancing the institutional and leadership capacities of local elected representatives, and by disseminating nationwide good practices of local democracy.
