Emperor Maximilian Prize awarded to Herwig Van Staa
The 2014 Emperor Maximilian Prize has been awarded to Herwig VAN STAA (Austria, EPP/CCE), President of the Congress, for his outstanding work to promote local and regional democracy, and more specifically transborder and inter-regional co-operation, multi-level governance and regional self-government. The ceremony took place the May 8, 2014 on the occasion of the international conference on the fight against corruption and the preventive and repressive measures at European, national, regional and local level in Innsbruck, Austria The Emperor Maximilian Prize is awarded to personalities or institutions for their achievements in regional and local politics, with special emphasis on the efforts made to implement the European Charter of Local Self-Government in Council of Europe member states
