A delegation from the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, composed of rapporteurs Jani Kokko (Finland, SOC/G/PD) and Katrien Partyka (Belgium, EPP/CCE), will carry out a monitoring visit to Switzerland from 18 to 20 November to assess the application of the European Charter of Local Self-Government since the previous monitoring report adopted by the Congress in 2017.
The objective of this visit is to evaluate the progress made in implementing the 2017 recommendation of the Congress in Switzerland. The delegation will meet with the Cantonal Chancellor and First Vice-President of the Cantonal Parliament of Bern, independent experts on the Charter, the President of the Federal Audit Office, members of Switzerland’s national delegation to the Congress and representatives of national associations of local and regional authorities. Meetings will also be held with the Ombudsperson of the Canton of Vaud, the President and Secretary General of the Cantonal Parliament of Neuchâtel, and the Presidents of the General and Municipal Councils of the City of Neuchâtel.
