The European Local Democracy Week (ELDW) was presented to the 400 mayors participating in the XV Ukrainian Municipal Forum, held in Odesa, Ukraine, on 18-19 June. On this occasion, many participants expressed a strong interest for the initiative aimed at bringing citizens together with their elected representatives.
The Mayor of Kiev, Vitaly Klitschko, and the Secretary General of the Congress, Andreas Kiefer, also commended the ELDW as a tool to influence the changes in communities. Kiev, who participated twice, is one of the most creative and innovative partner.
Other committed partners, such as Kharkiv and Lviv expressed their support to this initiative. "The European Local Democracy Week provides a good opportunity for the distribution of the knowledge that opens the door of the city management to all the active community members. Here in Lviv, we are always ready to launch initiatives and give good examples, that’s why such an initiative should be spread all over Ukraine.” shared Andriy Sadovvy, Mayor of Lviv.
The edition 2019 of the European Local Democracy Week is dedicated to “Local democracy: building trust”. Local and regional authorities and their associations across Europe are invited to register their activities.
