Bern Convention
Group of Experts on Conservation of Birds
 In 1995 the Standing Committee
to the Bern Convention discussed 23 Action Plans on Globally
Threatened Birds in Europe which had been prepared by BirdLife
International and Wetlands International. As a result the Standing
Committee adopted its Recommendation No. 48 on those Action
Plans and decided to set up a Group of experts on conservation
of birds to revise problems on bird conservation in Europe and
suggest adequate action.
Since then, the Group monitors the compliance of Parties
with the relevant Standing Committee’s recommendations No. 48
(1996) and informs the Committee on the progress in the implementation
of the action plans so far adopted while identifying other species
requiring specific action plans and proposing measures that
may be appropriate for the conservation of threatened birds.
As for all other groups of experts created under the Bern
Convention, it is expected to report to the Standing Committee
on its work, including possible draft recommendations for examination
by the Committee.
The Group will hold its
4th meeting on 31st May 2013 in
Tunis (Tunisia).
