The Group advocates in particular to harmonise drug detection tools and systems and develop data collection systems and the exchange of information between European international airports. |

Precursors
Given the acknowledged need for an accelerated information exchange among law enforcement officers and representatives of regulatory boards and competent prosecutors/magistrates, the aim of the Ad hoc Expert Group on the Prevention of Drug Precursors’ Diversion is to explore conditions for more rapid and direct contact among the agencies and services concerned in member States. |
|
Research
The Pompidou Group’s aim to link Policy, Practice and Science is at the core of exchanges and activities carried out in the field of research. After developing a number of data collection and monitoring methodologies, the research field has evolved towards the analysis of the impact of research on drug policies and on the development of evidence-based policy. |

MedNet
The Mediterranean network MedNET aims to foster cooperation, exchange and two-way knowledge transfer on drugs and addictions between the Mediterranean Basin and European donors member States of the Pompidou Group (North-South and South-North) as well as within countries of Mediterranean Basin (South-South). The network is a mechanism for exchanging information between professionals working on the ground. It is geared to promoting interaction between the political, practical and scientific aspects. |
|
Exass Net
EXASS Net is a European network of partnerships between stakeholders at frontline level responding to drug problems providing experience and assistance for inter-sectoral cooperation. |
|
Prevention
Drug prevention remains an important area in the work of the Pompidou Group. Life-skills training, building resilience and credible drug policies are at the core of the programmes that actually show prevention effects. Mobilising new potential by involving young people and parents should bring about more targeted and effective prevention. The European Drug Prevention Prize, a key event of the Pompidou Group, is awarded every two years to promote and encourage the development of drug prevention work that involves young people. |

Prevention of drug use in the workplace
In the light of the incomplete knowledge about the nature and scope of the problem and consequences of drug use in the workplace (illicit drugs and poly-drug use), the Pompidou Group has set up an ad hoc group which will look into different issues : the individual and environmental factors which could lead to drug consumption in the workplace, the legal framework at different levels, the shortcomings in prevention and safety measures. |
|
Treatment
Treatment, rehabilitation and social aspects of drug use form a very significant part of the Pompidou Group’s work. The emphasis in this field lies especially in improving the treatment and care of specific groups, adapting treatment to new trends, substances and patterns of consumption, assessing the results of different modalities of treatment and evaluating risk reduction interventions and measures to reduce harm to society. |
|
Ethics
The Committee on ethical issues and professional standards was set up to devise opinions and recommendations in addressing drug-related ethical issues in specific drug-related areas. The Committee worked on issues raised by drug testing at school and at the workplace. It also started reflecting on ethical problems raised by research. |
|
Criminal Justice
The main objective in this field of activities was to improve criminal justice response to the problems and nuisances caused by drugs. It was promoting among other issues the co-operation between law enforcement, health/care and social services as well as the building of partnerships between all involved actors. |
